What's under the hood

How this tool thinks

This uses the standard circle scheduling method: one slot stays fixed while the others rotate each round. Every possible pair appears exactly once in a single round robin.

With an odd count, a temporary empty slot creates one fair BYE per round. A double round robin mirrors the first leg and reverses each matchup.

Worth knowing

Useful in the real world

  • A single round robin has n − 1 rounds for an even field and n for an odd field.
  • Home and away labels are alternated, but venue logistics are yours to assign.
  • The print view removes the input form and decorative elements.

Short answers

Questions people actually ask

Does every participant play everyone else?

Yes. In a single round robin, every unique pair appears once. In a double round robin, each pair appears twice with the listed order reversed.

How are BYEs handled?

An odd field produces one BYE each round. The rotation ensures each participant receives exactly one BYE in a single round robin.

Is the schedule randomized?

No. Correct round-robin scheduling is deterministic. Reordering the input list changes the sequence if you want a different arrangement.
