What's under the hood

How this tool thinks

We start with typical slice estimates for adults and children, adjust for appetite and whether pizza is the whole meal, then add a small practical buffer.

Restaurants cut pizzas differently, so the selected slice count is explicit instead of pretending every large pizza is identical.

Worth knowing

Useful in the real world

  • Ask the restaurant how many slices come in each size.
  • Round up for very long events, teenagers, or uncertain attendance.
  • For groups above 150, confirm capacity and lead time with the restaurant.

Short answers

Questions people actually ask

How many slices should I plan per adult?

Three large-pizza slices is a useful middle estimate when pizza is the main meal. Light eaters may have two; hungry adults may have four.

How does the calculator count children?

Children are estimated at roughly one to two-and-a-half slices depending on appetite. You know your group best, so adjust the appetite setting when needed.

Is the extra buffer wasteful?

The buffer is intentionally modest—usually around 10%. It protects against uneven appetites without doubling the leftovers.
